I'm sure we are all aware of the state of the world right now. Its a really scary and stressful time for a lot of people, job insecurity, adjusting to a new way of living, and especially, wearing masks can really mess up your skin. As we all go through this time I'm sure like a lot of you I am finding it harder to stay inside. Wearing a mask is now government-enforced to do some of my favorite activities. Having to cover your face is something we need to do as a society to keep ourselves and loved ones safe it can give you some serious acne if you aren't careful.
#1 Wash your masks weekly: This is one of the most important steps to preventing potential breakouts. Just like you wouldn't keep drying your face with a dirty towel or makeup wipe you need to launder your masks. The masks are doing their job keeping you safe but they are also keeping all of your sweat, dirt, and toxins in and absorbs them like a sponge.
#2 Stick to fragrance-free laundry detergent: When you wash your mask you wanna use fragrance-free laundry detergent and either hang dry or lay them on a flat cool surface to dry. Fragrances can be an irritant to your skin so you definitely want to keep it away from your face.
#3 Clean your face before and after mask use: Having a clean face is going to give you the best results for clear skin in general. The elimination of dirt and dry skin that can accumulate on the face throughout the day twice as important now. Don't skip this step! Being outside with a mask on changes the regulation of oxygen to your nose and face making it a little hot a little sweat especially in these summer months.
#4 Go natural at least on the bottom half: Even though sometimes it's unavoidable but try not to wear makeup under your mask. Masks act like barriers, that will trap makeup and lead to clogged pores and breakout.
#5 Apply moisturizer: Moisturizer keeps your skin hydrated and coats and protects your skin. While talking and laughing you are creating friction that can irritate your skin. You wanna make sure you are choosing the right one not a heavy moisturizer like the one you would put on before bed. It should be fairly light with ingredients like hyaluronic acid or ceramide. If the moisturizer is too heavy it can work against you and also clog pores too.
